On their very first day at Voxitec, Natache, Sebastian, and Iryna discovered that this internship was unlike any they had experienced before. It wasn’t just about learning new skills-it was about contributing to meaningful work, solving real-world problems, and taking ownership of outcomes that truly matter.
Every challenge they faced, every solution they implemented, reflected a culture rooted in mission-driven impact. By the end of their internship, they had not only grown technically but also gained the confidence and perspective to deliver meaningful results every single day.
Through Voxitec’s Internship Reflection blog series, they shared their insights and key learnings, offering a glimpse into how diversity, inclusivity, and structured support shaped their growth, confidence, and professional vision.
What part of Voxitec’s culture impressed you the most?
Natache: The part of Voxitec’s culture that impressed me most was the genuine commitment to "purpose-driven collaboration." From the very beginning, receiving a personal welcome from the Founder made it clear that this was an environment where every contributor, regardless of their level, was valued. I was struck by the transparency and accessibility of the leadership team. Even while working remotely across the globe, I felt integrated into a mission that prioritized innovation over hierarchy. This culture of openness fostered a space where I felt safe to ask complex questions and propose technical optimizations.
Sebastian: The part of Voxitec’s culture that impressed me the most was how well it aligned with my multilingual background, which is very important to me. Working in an environment where communication extended beyond just one language made collaboration feel more natural and meaningful. It showed me that the company values diverse ways of thinking and expressing ideas. This allowed me to contribute more confidently and connect better with others. Being able to operate in a space that respects different communication styles reinforced the importance of global collaboration in professional environments.
Iryna: What impressed me most during my internship was the opportunity to take ownership of tasks, conduct independent research, and contribute to design decisions. I was trusted to take initiative rather than simply follow instructions, which gave me a clearer understanding of how real-world projects operate. This experience not only strengthened my confidence and problem-solving skills but also reshaped my professional vision in a more practical and purposeful direction.
How did diversity and inclusivity shape your experience here?
Natache:As a Brazilian-American student working for a Sri Lankan firm, diversity was the daily reality of my internship. Inclusivity at Voxitec felt less like a policy and more like an active practice of "intellectual empathy." The team embraced my unique background and non-traditional career path, valuing the diverse perspective I brought to our full-stack projects. Navigating our different business norms required a high level of cultural agility, which the team modeled perfectly. This environment encouraged me to share my ideas freely, knowing they would be respected within our multicultural and geographically dispersed team structure.
Sebastian: Diversity and inclusivity were also very important to me during my experience at Voxitec. I was previously offered a role at a startup generating over one million dollars monthly, but I chose not to accept it primarily because it was limited to English-speaking communication and I felt potential conflict from poor behavior. At Voxitec, the diverse environment created a more respectful and balanced atmosphere. It allowed for better collaboration and understanding across different perspectives. This made my experience more positive and showed me how important inclusivity is in building strong, professional teams.
Iryna: Diversity and inclusivity made the experience feel more open and collaborative. Working with people from different backgrounds and perspectives helped me think more broadly and question my assumptions. I felt comfortable sharing my ideas, knowing they would be respected, and I also learned to communicate more thoughtfully.
What made you feel supported while working remotely?
Natache: Despite the significant 13.5-hour time difference, I felt consistently supported through structured communication and reliable feedback loops. My Founder, Kasun, provided exceptional guidance that bridged our temporal gap, ensuring I never felt isolated in my Reno-based shifts. The use of "High-Richness Communication"-such as detailed documentation and video/images handovers-created a predictable system for support. Knowing there was a dedicated framework for checking in and receiving constructive feedback allowed me to work with confidence. This organizational reliability turned the potential challenge of asynchronous work into a highly efficient and supportive professional process.
Sebastian: What made me feel supported while working remotely was my supervisor’s consistent feedback and encouragement. Knowing when he was satisfied with my work and when improvements were needed gave me clear direction and motivation. His compliments reinforced that I was progressing well, while constructive feedback helped me refine my skills. This ongoing communication created a sense of structure and accountability, even in a remote environment. It kept me focused on delivering quality work and made me feel that my contributions were being recognized and valued throughout the internship.
Iryna: What made me feel most supported while working remotely was the sense of connection with both the community and my supervisor. Even though we were not physically in the same space, regular check-ins and open communication made the experience feel collaborative rather than isolating. My supervisor was approachable and willing to clarify expectations, which gave me confidence in my work. At the same time, being part of a broader community helped me feel engaged and reminded me that I was contributing to something larger than myself.
What guidance was most valuable for your growth?
Natache: The most valuable guidance I received centered on adopting a "growth mindset" and shifting toward deliberate "System 2" thinking. Early in the program, I was encouraged to move beyond simply resolving tickets to deeply understanding the underlying architecture of our applications. This shift from reactive coding to proactive, architectural optimization was a turning point in my professional development. Learning to treat every technical roadblock as an opportunity for learning allowed me to build significant resilience. This mentorship transformed my approach to engineering, teaching me that technical rigor and professional accountability are inseparable components of success.
Sebastian: The most valuable guidance for my growth was the team-building structure at Voxitec. There are multiple leaders working in dedicated roles, which creates a balanced environment where responsibilities are shared effectively. This prevented me from feeling overwhelmed and allowed me to focus on improving specific skills. Observing how different leaders contribute to the overall system helped me understand how strong teams operate. It also showed me the importance of collaboration and organization in professional settings, which has been essential in shaping my development and confidence as a developer.
Iryna: The most valuable guidance for my growth was the weekly one-on-one meetings with my supervisor. During these sessions, he shared his insights about the current design projects and offered thoughtful feedback on my work. His perspectives helped clarify and broaden my thinking about how I can continuously improve myself as a designer. By sharing his personal experiences, he encouraged me to approach challenges with more confidence and intention. This internship helped me overcome many of the limitations I had previously imposed on myself in my design journey.
How did this internship influence your career goals?
Natache: This internship served as a vital catalyst for my transition from a student to a professional Full-Stack Software Engineer. Successfully navigating the complexities of a global, distributed team has given me the confidence to pursue high-impact roles in the international tech industry. It confirmed my passion for both front-end and back-end development and provided tangible proof that I can thrive in high-pressure, remote environments. My goal is now to leverage my skills in React and Node.js to solve meaningful problems on a global scale, specifically within organizations that value innovation and cross-cultural collaboration as much as Voxitec. I am eager to continue this experience applying and learning even more about back-end.
Sebastian: This internship influenced my career goals by helping me solidify real relationships with people who need my services. Through open communication and collaboration, I was able to connect with others on a professional level and demonstrate my value. These interactions built a foundation of trust, which I believe will lead to future opportunities and partnerships. It also reinforced my interest in working in environments where communication and connection are key. Overall, the experience has positioned me to attract new opportunities and continue growing through meaningful professional relationships.
Iryna: This internship gave me a clearer sense of how to shape my skills and the direction in which I want to grow professionally. I now understand which areas to focus on and recognize that consistency is key to long-term improvement. I was strongly encouraged to create my own case studies and continue working on redesign projects to strengthen my design skill set. My supervisor also emphasized staying informed through insightful articles to keep up with industry trends. Overall, this experience motivated me to push myself further, knowing I am capable of achieving more.
