Internship Reflections: Building The Foundation at Voxitec

In Summer 2025, Voxitec’s Remote Internship Program offered a flexible and engaging experience for interns, allowing them to work remotely. This flexibility enabled students from around the world to participate, bringing diverse perspectives and talents to Voxitec’s mission-driven work. Interns also shared their experiences and key learnings through our Internship Reflection blog series.

What inspired you to apply for an internship at Voxitec?

Florence: I was inspired to apply for an internship at Voxitec because I wanted hands-on experience in a place that truly values learning and growth. As someone who studied Psychology with Neuroscience, I was drawn to the idea of an internship that wasn’t limited to just one area, but instead gave me the chance to explore different paths and discover what I really enjoy. What stood out about Voxitec was not only that openness, but also the culture - kindness, inclusivity, and genuine friendliness. It felt like the kind of company where I could grow while also feeling part of a supportive community.

Freya: Throughout my studies as a Business and Management student, I’ve developed an understanding of the business world. However, I felt as though I couldn’t truly understand without experience. Voxitec caught my eye as I loved the idea of working amongst other like-minded, passionate individuals. I felt the role they were offering, a business analyst position, was well-suited to my skills and strengths. Along with role responsibilities, they included a section about what I could gain from working at Voxitec. This understanding that both Voxitec and myself would benefit from the experience is what ultimately led me to interviewing with them. That, and their core values.

How did you see the company’s values reflected in day-to-day work?

Florence: Even though my internship was remote, Voxitec’s values were clear in the way people approached their work and supported each other. From the very start, I was allocated a supervisor who, no matter how busy they were, always made time to answer my questions - often straight away. It really showed me that collaboration, respect, and curiosity weren’t just words but part of everyday practice. Knowing that my supervisor would consistently try to help with any challenge made me feel connected, supported, and part of something bigger despite working remotely.

Freya: Every day, without fail, my supervisor has been very supportive, positive, and kind. He has assisted me to produce better outcomes, given me any information I’ve asked for, and listened to my suggestions.

The team as a whole is very welcoming and collaborative. They take onboard what each individual has to say and care deeply about the success of Voxitec. The nature of the company fosters a culture of growth and innovation, one I am delighted to be part of. From day one, I understood the team’s optimism towards the future of Voxitec and found it very motivating.

What made you feel comfortable and encouraged to share your ideas and take initiative?

Florence: The openness of the team made it easy for me to feel comfortable sharing my thoughts. Even as an intern, my suggestions were taken seriously, and I was trusted with real responsibilities. For example, I was given the chance to conduct interviews with my supervisor, write articles and blogs. Having that level of trust showed me that my contributions mattered and encouraged me to keep stepping up. It boosted my confidence and made me feel like I was gaining the full span of experience, not just observing from the sidelines.

Freya: When I first started at Voxitec, I was nervous to share my opinions, just in case they were rejected. However, the support and kindness consistently shown to me by the team gave me the courage to speak up. This ended up being very rewarding for me.

I felt, and still feel, that my ideas are wanted and valued. My supervisor not only accepts and puts into action my suggestions, he seeks them out. This continued respect and support has allowed me to thrive when it comes to taking initiative at Voxitec.

What skills and knowledge did you gain through independent work that you found most valuable?

Florence: Working independently taught me the importance of self-initiative - being proactive in taking ownership of tasks and not waiting to be told what to do. I learned how valuable it is to ask questions, not just to solve immediate problems but to deepen understanding and uncover better ways of working. That skill alone feels like something I’ll carry throughout my life. Alongside this, I gained confidence in managing my time, structuring tasks, and troubleshooting on my own, all of which strengthened my accountability and independence.

Freya: The independent work allowed me to gain a range of skills and knowledge. The most valuable of which have to include organisation and critical thinking. Without having someone with me to keep me on track of my tasks, I learnt to manage my workload myself, prioritising important tasks and balancing multiple pieces of work to boost my productivity and efficiency. I also deepened my critical thinking skills through reflecting on my work before seeking feedback from others, seeking diverse perspectives in my research, and taking the initiative to form my own arguments, all facilitated by working individually.

What feedback and guidance from your supervisor was most helpful in improving your skills?

Florence: What I appreciated most about my supervisor was the way their feedback was always constructive and encouraging. After writing an article, for instance, they would highlight the areas that could be strengthened and explain why those changes mattered, which made the process feel like genuine learning rather than criticism. The same applied when I conducted interviews - they celebrated it as an achievement and made me feel proud of the experience. If there was anything to refine, their guidance was always clear and supportive, leaving me motivated and equipped to keep improving.

Freya: My supervisor provided a variety of insightful feedback, but I believe the most important and helpful piece he gave was to ask more questions. It may seem like simple guidance, but it has been incredibly useful in improving my work here at Voxitec. It opened me to asking more about the company, so I could gain a deeper understanding of how Voxitec operates and it allowed me to feel comfortable to share any queries I had. In turn, my work became much smoother and I feel I became more productive and successful as a result.

What did you enjoy most about working with Voxians?

Florence: What I enjoyed most about working with Voxitec was the positive and supportive culture. Even though the internship was remote, I really valued the flexibility and the trust they placed in me to get on with my work. At the same time, I never felt isolated - my supervisor checked in with me every day to make sure I was comfortable with the tasks and to see if I needed any support. That balance of independence and care, combined with the friendly and approachable nature of the team, created a sense of belonging from day one. It wasn’t just about work - it was about building connections and learning from people who were genuinely passionate about what they do.

Freya: There is much to enjoy about working with Voxitec. The work is stimulating and rewarding, the team is friendly and approachable, and my supervisor is very attentive and supportive. However, what I have enjoyed most is the encouragement and trust placed in me, giving me the opportunity to grow and the courage to take on new challenges. It has truly been an unforgettable experience that I hope to carry with me into my career and I recommend anyone considering to apply, you won’t regret it!

What part of your work made you feel most proud due to your own contributions?

Florence: One of my favourite parts of the internship was conducting interviews - what an opportunity to be trusted with something so important! It gave me a huge sense of pride to know that, even as an intern, I was contributing in a meaningful way. Being given that responsibility showed me that my input was valued, and it really boosted my confidence. Looking back, those moments made me realise how much I had grown - it was something I could point to and proudly say, “I did that.”

Freya: I love being able to bring so many suggestions to the table that I believe can help Voxitec flourish. Seeing the result of my research being put into action makes me most proud, as I feel like it will not only benefit Voxitec now, but will assist them with their goals of expansion and forming strategic partnerships. I take pride in my research, and to see it be so valued by the team at Voxitec is very rewarding to me.

How did your internship help you better understand your strengths, autonomy, and ability to work independently?

Florence: This internship really showed me what I’m capable of outside the classroom. I learned that I thrive when I’m trusted to take ownership - whether that was writing articles, managing tasks on my own, or even conducting interviews, which was such an exciting opportunity. Those experiences helped me recognise strengths I hadn’t fully appreciated before, like adaptability, initiative, and self-motivation. At the same time, I saw how valuable it is to balance independence with collaboration and support. Most importantly, I’ve come away with a clearer picture of what I bring to a team and the confidence to keep growing from here.

Freya: Given the remote nature of this work, my internship pushed me to take ownership of my own work, organising my time effectively. Working at Voxitec has helped me become resourceful in seeking solutions independently, and providing quality outcomes with minimal supervision. My confidence has grown and the projects I have completed have taught me the importance of critical thinking, communication, and autonomy.
